Who Cap is for

Cap is for people who want a recording app on their computer and more control over the finished video. Its Studio Mode records and edits locally, works offline with a Desktop License, and can export in different formats. Cap is also open source and can be self hosted, which matters when your team wants control over its infrastructure.

The paid Cap Pro plan adds the cloud around that desktop workflow, including unlimited cloud storage and sharing, automatic titles, summaries, chapters and transcripts, password protected shares, viewer analytics, team workspaces, custom storage and a Loom importer.

Who Rekkko is for

Rekkko is for the moment when installing an app is already too much work. Open it in a desktop browser, choose the screen and microphone, record, then send the link. The viewer needs no account and can watch on a phone or laptop.

The free plan includes 100 recordings of up to 10 minutes each, plus a transcript, title, summary, chapters and transcript editing. Founding Member raises recordings to two hours and removes the video count for $5 a month or $49 once.

Where Cap is the better answer

Choose Cap if offline recording, local editing, 4K export, self hosting, a custom storage destination or a team workspace is important. Its Desktop License also gives commercial usage rights without requiring a cloud subscription. Rekkko does not offer those things.

Cap’s free version is for personal local use. Its Desktop License includes commercial rights and 20 cloud shareable links each month, up to five minutes each. Cap Pro removes that cloud limit and adds its AI and collaboration features.

Where Rekkko is the simpler answer

Choose Rekkko when the install is the problem, when a managed laptop blocks apps, or when the recording needs to become a link with as few decisions as possible. Its free plan includes hosted links and automatic AI text, while Cap keeps those AI features in Pro.

This is not a claim that one product is better overall. Cap gives you a broader desktop studio and more control. Rekkko asks you to set up less before you can explain the thing in front of you.

The honest limits

Better you read this here than find out halfway through a recording.

  • The free plan covers 100 videos of up to 10 minutes each. Founding Member removes both limits.
  • A single recording can be up to 2 GB. Long recordings at high resolution get there faster than you would think.
  • Recording works in desktop browsers only. Phones and tablets can watch, but not record.
  • You need a free account to record. The people you send the link to need nothing at all.
