What free actually covers
Recording your screen, a window or a single tab. Adding your microphone and camera if they help. Editing on the timeline: trim, split, reorder, change speed, remove silences and filler words, or cut a section by deleting words in the transcript. A transcript for the recording. A share link anyone can open. Passwords, expiry dates and the ability to turn a link off. Comments from viewers, and who watched.
That is the product, not a stripped free tier sitting next to a real one. There is no paid plan to upgrade to right now, so there is nothing being held back behind one.
Why it is free
Rekkko is built and run by one person, and it is new. Charging money before the product has earned it means spending my time on billing, invoices, refunds and tax instead of on recording and editing, which is the part you came for.
The hosting bill is mine while it is small. That is a real cost and I am fine with it at this size, because the alternative is asking you to pay for something that is still finding its feet.
What you are not signing up for
No trial clock
Nothing expires after 14 days and no feature quietly locks itself. The account you make today keeps working the same way.
No per-viewer cost
The people you send links to never pay and never sign in. One recording watched by fifty people costs you nothing extra.
What happens if paid plans arrive
It is possible. If the hosting bill outgrows what one person can absorb, some part of Rekkko will need to pay for itself. If that day comes, I will say it here and in your account first, not in a surprise email the morning it changes.
The things I am not going to do: delete recordings you already made to force a decision, break links you have already shared, or start charging the people who only watch. Those would be the cheap moves and they are the reason people distrust free tools.
The likely shape is that everyday recording and sharing stays free, and the heavier work that costs real money per use, like AI summaries and long transcripts, sits behind a paid option. I would rather write that down now than pretend the question does not exist.
How this compares to paying for Loom
Loom's free plan caps recordings at five minutes and keeps your 25 most recent videos, and removing those limits means paying per person every month. For a team of five that is a real line item for something used a few times a week.

The honest limits
Better you read this here than find out halfway through a recording.
- A single recording can be up to 2 GB. Long recordings at high resolution get there faster than you would think.
- Recording works in desktop browsers only. Phones and tablets can watch, but not record.
- You need a free account to record. The people you send the link to need nothing at all.
- Rekkko is free today and I cover the hosting myself, so limits may change as it grows. Nothing gets deleted without telling you.
