How to

Remove the ums in one click.

You do not need a video editor to make a recording tighter. Clearing out the filler words and the silences usually takes a third off the length without changing a word of what you said.

Why filler words matter more in video

In conversation nobody notices an um. In a recording they stack up, because the person watching cannot interrupt, nod, or hurry you along. Two minutes of pauses and ahs inside a six-minute recording is the difference between something watched to the end and something abandoned at ninety seconds.

The old fix was to record again, or to open a real editor and cut by hand. Both cost more time than the recording did. The better fix is to let the transcript find them and take them out in one pass.

How to clean up a recording

Three steps in the browser, no editing experience needed.

  1. 1

Open the recording in the editor

Every recording in your library has an editor with the timeline, the preview and the transcript side by side.

  2. 2

    Remove silences and filler words

One control clears long pauses, another clears the ums and ahs. The timeline updates immediately and you can play it back before keeping it.

  3. 3

Cut anything else by deleting words

Find the sentence you regret in the transcript and delete those words. That part of the video goes with them. Undo is there if you cut too much.

What the cleanup actually does

Silences

The gaps where you were reading, scrolling or thinking. Removing them is usually the single biggest saving in a recording.

Filler words

The ums, ahs and false starts that the transcript can identify. Taking them out makes you sound more certain than the raw take did.

Editing by transcript

Reading is faster than scrubbing. Deleting words is how you cut a whole tangent without hunting for the exact frame.

How much to cut

Do not aim for perfect. A recording with every breath removed sounds clipped and slightly inhuman, and pauses do useful work: they let someone catch up before the next point.

Take out the long silences, the filler and the tangent you noticed halfway through, and stop there. A four-minute recording that sounds like a person beats a three-minute one that sounds like a machine.

The rest of the timeline

Beyond the cleanup, the editor covers trimming the start and end, splitting a clip, reordering pieces if you explained things out of order, and changing playback speed. Play it back in the preview before you share.

When you are happy, copy the link. Nobody has to install anything or sign in to watch it, and you can add a password or an expiry if the contents are sensitive.

The honest limits

Better you read this here than find out halfway through a recording.

  • A single recording can be up to 2 GB. Long recordings at high resolution get there faster than you would think.
  • Recording works in desktop browsers only. Phones and tablets can watch, but not record.
  • You need a free account to record. The people you send the link to need nothing at all.
  • Rekkko is free today and I cover the hosting myself, so limits may change as it grows. Nothing gets deleted without telling you.

FAQ

Questions about editing

Do I need video editing software?

No. The editing happens in the browser next to the recording, with a timeline, a preview and the transcript.

Does removing filler words change my voice?

No. It cuts the pieces where you said nothing useful. The rest of your audio is untouched.

Can I undo a cut?

Yes. There is undo in the editor, so you can try a cleanup, listen back, and reverse it.

How does deleting transcript words edit the video?

The transcript is tied to the timeline. Deleting words removes the matching piece of video and audio.

Is the transcript accurate?

It is good on clear speech and less good with heavy background noise or several people talking over each other. You can read it before you rely on it for cuts.

Does editing re-upload the whole recording?

No. You edit in the browser and share the same link when you are done.

Can I download the edited version?

Yes. Recordings can be downloaded from your library as a file.

Ready to record something?

It runs in your browser. Nothing to install, no card, and the link works for anyone you send it to.
